IETF 68 Prague: draft-dolganow-ospf-pwe3-ms-pw-ext authors: Alex Zinin (Alcatel-Lucent) Andrew Dolganow (Alcatel-Lucent) Dimitri Papadimitriou (Alcatel-Lucent) Frederic Jounay (France Telecom) Matthew Bocci (Alcatel-Lucent) Mustapha Aissaoui (Alcatel-Lucent) Yuji Kamite (NTT)

draft-dolganow-ospf-pwe3-ms-pw-ext Motivation  Need a method to dynamically route MS-PW  Need a solution for single provider’s aggregation, access, metro network Above networks usually spin a single IGP domain or AS Network of large number of routers, which may be simple boxes with limited routing support (i.e. may not have MP-BGP deployed and thus may not be capable to use MP-BGP method for MS-PW routing) Need a dynamic and not static method to route PW with TE capabilities Problem  How to determine which PEs are routable and switching capable? And which PE should we signal MS-PW to?

draft-dolganow-ospf-pwe3-ms-pw-ext PWE3 network Ability to establish MS-PW (LDP session) between S-PE/T-PE or between S-PE/SPE are considered to be a PW adjacency Underlying OSPF network T-PEs ACs addressed by signalling using PE prefix + AC ID Each S-PE/T-PE has its own L2 address (Global ID + prefix) S-PE T-PEs

draft-dolganow-ospf-pwe3-ms-pw-ext Solution  Already running OSPF instance is extended (using existing OSPF defined mechanism - Opaque LSA) for advertising new information: PW Switching LSAs  PW Switching LSA used to discover PW topology: PW Adjacency TLV (new TLV for advertising ability to establish MS-PW segment between T-PE/S-PE or S-PE/S-PE), and optionally AIIs TLV (may not be needed for routing)  PW link state database is built and used to route MS-PW  Proposes a complimentary method to any other solutions currently being worked on (for example MP-BGP)

draft-dolganow-ospf-pwe3-ms-pw-ext Solution details  OSPF opaque LSAs type 11 (AS-wide) used to advertise PW topology  S-PEs and T-PEs initiate LSAs, all other routers flood them (Opaque LSA support required)  New TLVs: Adjacency TLV, AII TLV (optional) - encoding details in the draft T-PEs originate PW Switching LSA with PW Adjacency TLV and optionally AII TLV S-PEs originate PW Switching LSA with PW Adjacency TLV T-PEs S-PE T-PEs

draft-dolganow-ospf-pwe3-ms-pw-ext Solution details - continued  S-PEs and T-PEs construct PW routing table to perform dynamic PW routing as per draft-ietf-pwe3- dynamic-ms-pw  Methods need to be specified to to limit MS-PW extensions “tax” on OSPF.

draft-dolganow-ospf-pwe3-ms-pw-ext Next steps  Agree that we (PWE3) want to find IGP solution to dynamic MS-PW routing  Clean/up as required the OSPF solution  Fill details on operational and deployment consideration  Address IS-IS
