Common Core Standards 3.RL.1- Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers. 3.W.2- Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. a. Introduce a topic and group related information together; include illustrations when useful to aiding comprehension. b. Develop the topic with facts, definitions, and details. d. Provide a concluding statement or section Introduce dinosaurs to class and have students share what they know with their classmates. Task: Welcome dinosaur explorers! As a team, you will each choose a role and work together to create, your own dinosaur and brief biography. Roles (3): 1. Bone collector: You will go on a scavenger hunt and collect bones from the giant sensory table. 2. Researcher: You will collect and research the various bones found by #1 and go on a site to collect data. 3. Creative task: Create a visual aid, to create a visual of the dinosaur.

Step 1: What do you know? Students will share ideas with their peers and go up to the board and write down one thing they know about dinosaurs. Step 2: Choose your duty. Assign roles. There will be 3 students in each group. Roles

Bone collector: You will have 5-8 minutes to go on a scavenger hunt in the sensory table. A link is provided to show how real dinosaur bones are found and dug out. Each bone will have a tag that will name that specific bone.
