3. WHEN HE WAS BORNGROWING UP  He was born on July 20, 1978, in Russia.  As he was growing up he played lots of sports, but hockey was his favorite sport.  He started playing hockey when he was young.

4.  One of his hobbies is tennis.  He also liked to play soccer. He started playing when he was 7 years old.  Pavel also likes to play billiards or pool and me and my Pops like to call it “loop”. He started playing “loop” when he was 17 years old.  He also likes to fish, he catches big fish.  Both of us have a lot in common.

5. LOCAL TEAMSNHL  He played with local teams when he was young.  He couldn’t go into the NHL because of his smaller size, teams didn't think he could compete.  Finally in 1998 he got drafted into the NHL, and was on the Red Wings. He was 20 years old when he got drafted.

6.  Pavel, #13, is a center on the Red Wings.  Pavel shoots from the left.  He is known as a playmaker, very patient and has great passing abilities.  In the NHL, Pavel Datsyuk is the scoring leader for the Red Wings.

7.  Pavel ranks 7th in the NHL in assists (119), 12th in points per game (1.14) and 13th in points (174)  He played for Russia in the 2006 Winter Olympics  He played in the 2004 and 2006 NHL All-Star Game  Pavel won the Stanley Cup Championship as a member of the Red Wings in 2002  He signed a 7-year contract with the Red Wings on 4/6/07—the longest in Red Wings’ history!!!!!!!!!!!

8.  Pavel is a co- captain because he is a gentlemen and cheers on his team.  He overcame many challenges like being small in size and speaking a different language.  He is a good person so he brought the Stanley cup to his home town in Russia.

9. I chose Pavel Datsyuk because he is a talented player. I want to be like Pavel Datsyuk.
