Good News: 2009 showed the largest increase since 2003 – with 17% Bad News: STEM awards would need to increase 100% to reach the 2015 target. THECB 6/2010

In FY 2009, initial teacher certifications from all sources dropped for the first time since FY 2000. Certification of new math and science teachers dropped 5% THECB 6/2010

Hispanics had the largest increases, but still lag with only 4.4% participation rate African American Females have the highest participation rate (7.8%) of any group Overall Female participation rate outpaces males 6.5% to 5.0% STEM degrees had largest increase yet, but still need to double to reach target Certifications of new math and science teachers dropped 5% THECB 6/2010
