J OB D ESCRIPTION A computer programmer writes, tests and maintains the detailed instructions, called programs, that computers must follow to perform their functions. Many programmers update, repair, modify and expand existing programs.

Working Environment A programmer generally works in offices in comfortable surroundings. Many programmers may work long hours or weekends to meet deadlines or fix critical problems that occur during off hours. Many times a programmer may work by telecommuting (internet, email or modem).
