It’s All About Certainty Romans 8:1-39
2
It’s all about Victory We Have The Spirit’s Guidance Romans 8:12-17
3
It’s a given that we now have the spirit living inside us. Yes, what are we to do now? What are we now able to do with the spirit’s help?
4
12 Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,
5
We should never think that we are beyond the lingering tug of the fleshly nature. When we sin the spirit is there to help us.
6
1John 1:8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 89108910

The Two ways will produce long lasting effects. One you will die and the other you will live forever.
8
In other words, we are not to live according to the flesh. God created man body, mind, and spirit. When man sinned, his spirit died to God. Remember that God warned, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Gen. 2:17). McGee, J. V. (1991).

99But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) 9But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) 9
10
The stakes are high but we as born again Christian have the difference maker. The holy spirit enables the child of God to say No to sin if we chose too.
11
Gal 5:16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. Gal 5:16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.

Romans 8:14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of son ship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of son ship. 13
We can say no to the flesh but we can also have assurance that we belong to the family of God.
14
The Holy Spirit clearly enters the believer not just to put out flash fires that our flesh creates, but to lead us as Sons of God.
15
God does not drive His sheep; He leads them. When our Lord told of the safety and security of the sheep, He made it clear that they were not forced into the will of His hand and that of the Father. He said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them [and I drive them out! Oh, no] and they follow me” (John 10:27). McGee, J. V. (1991).
16
V15 God reminded the listener that God lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt and through the wilderness. He did not give them the spirit of slavery, but the spirit of adoption. This truly was a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ.
17
This fear is taken away by Christ, yet people today try to add works of Bondage and live in fear hoping to live up to the perfect life that Christ could only live. We that are born again can cast off that fear and live free in Christ knowing that we belong to God’s family.

The word “Abba” is an Aramaic word that would most closely be translated as “Daddy.” It was a common term that young children would use to address their fathers. It signifies the close intimate relationship of a father to his child, as well as the childlike trust that a young child puts in his “daddy.” The word “Abba” is an Aramaic word that would most closely be translated as “Daddy.” It was a common term that young children would use to address their fathers. Romans 8:16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17Now if we are children, then we are heirs— heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. 16171617

Third we as believers can confidently endure trials and suffering because the Holy Spirit testifies to the fact that we are children of God.
21
In Paul’s day children that were legally adopted immediately became full heirs along side with the natural born children. Because of the Spirit’s presence in the believers life we to are confident that we belong to God for all eternity heirs of God-Coheirs of Christ.
