1 The Footprints Project The Footprints Project Helping to reduce the risk of re-offending by Supporting and Mentoring those who have served or are serving their time on a community sentence AND are returning to Poole, Bournemouth, Dorset and south Somerset

4 Practicalities Mentor engagement prior to release Gate Collection Roof / housing / hostel appointment – problems with Food Money – for how long? Access to Health / medication / daily structure 4

5 Our Volunteer Mentors Volunteers from the community include: Ex Offenders Addicts in recovery Business men and women Retired individuals Life experiences and empathy to help others to help themselves 5

6 Mentoring is..... Definition of Mentoring – The Home Office ‘A one-to-one, non-judgemental relationship in which an individual voluntarily gives time to support and encourage another. This relationship is typically developed at a time of transition in the mentee’s life and lasts for a significant and sustained period of time.’

7 What do Mentors do? Provide intensive practical support Accompanying client to access relevant support ▪ Assist in making necessary appointments with Job Seekers, Benefits, GP etc. Help the client in setting their own goals and agreeing mutual committment. Giving ongoing proactive, regular contact by phone or in person. ▪ Challenge negative behaviours

9 Current Figures 15 active Volunteer Mentors 35 clients being mentored in the community Volunteers: fundraiser, book keeper, Board of Trustees Staff: Prison Liaison in HMP Dorchester, Guys Marsh, Portland and HMP Eastwood Park, Prison / Mentor Liaison, Trainer Accommodation officer - GM 9
