The valley of the kings The valley of the kings is a desert valley located on the west bank of Thebes, the political and religious capital of the new kingdom.The valley has two main branches: the East Valley, where most of the royal tombs are situated and the West Valley, that only contains the tombs of Amenhotep III and Ay, and some pits.

Tutankhamun He was buried in a hastily prepared tomb in the valley of the kings at Thebes, The traditional burial place of his predecessors. The person responsible for his burial, and shown on one of the walls in Tutankhamen's tomb, was Ay who succeeded him on the Egyptian throne.

Sphinx The Egyptians built sphinx statues to guard important areas such as tombs and temples. The Great Sphinx is huge! It is 241 feet long, 20 feet wide, and 66 feet high. The eyes on the face are 6 feet tall, the ears over three feet tall, and the nose would have been nearly 5 feet long before it was knocked off. It is carved out of the bedrock in a trench at the Giza site.

Pyramids Most of the pyramids can be found on the western side of the Nile River, just into the dry desert. The pyramids are the stone tombs of Egypt's kings - the Pharaohs and one of the world's greatest historical mysteries. They have stood for thousands of years, filled with many hidden secrets: clues about what life and death was like in Ancient Egypt.
