Hero/Heroine Definition: The hero or heroine is the leading character or protagonist whose struggles move the plot along. Example: Bilbo Baggins, The Hobbit

Mentor Definition: The mentor guides the hero, teaching them skills and character traits, perhaps gifting important items. Essential Characteristics: Older than the protagonist. Tests and challenges the protagonist. Example: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars

Jester/Clown Definition: a goofy sidekick who provides comic relief. Essential Characteristics: A friend of the protagonist often used as comic relief. Example: Donkey, Shrek

Loveable Rogue Definition: A good-guy who doesn’t always follow the rules. Essential Characteristics: Breaks rules, yet is concerned with greater good; a sidekick to the protagonist Contrasts with the protagonist, who usually follow the rules more closely Example: Han Solo, Star Wars

Other Character Archetypes: Temptress: Destructive woman who uses her beauty for wicked deeds. Example: Wicked Queen, Snow White Villain: Evil, often enemy of hero Example: Voldemort, Harry Potter series
