Demonstrative Pronouns Demonstrative pronouns are pronouns that demonstrate a noun. Demonstrative pronouns tell which one or which group is being referred to. THAT, THIS, THESE, and THOSE are all demonstrative pronouns.

THIS and THESE refer to/point to people or things that are near in space and time. This is my new car. These are my video games. THAT and THOSE point to people or things that are farther away in space or time. That was my favorite movie. Those were my old shoes.

Antecedents An antecedent is the word that gives meaning to a pronoun. When talking about demonstratives, the antecedent is the word that the pronoun refers to. This is my dog, Bilbo Waggins. Demonstrative Pronoun Antecedent
