3   James Madison was the fourth president of the United States  George Washington was the first president of the United States  Benjamin Franklin was a major figure as a scientist in the American Enlightenment  Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence Founding Fathers

4   New England: Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island  Middle: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware  Southern: Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia 3 Regions of the 13 Colonies

5   New England: fishing, shipbuilding, whaling, logging  Middle: crops; oats and grains, logging, shipbuilding, textiles production, and papermaking.  Southern: rice, indigo, tobacco, sugarcane and cotton What made each colony unique?

6   Hammers  Saws  Planes Tools

7   Milliners - made cloaks, gowns, apron, shifts, hats  Printer and Binder - the colonial press printed important information for the colonies.  Silversmith – sculpted silver from being pored to being polished Jobs

8   For music the main instruments were fifes, snare drums and bass drums. These instruments were played during battles.  Slate boards and horn books were used for the small one roomed school houses around town. Literature & Music
