http://www.bucknell.edu/isr Brief History of Portal During the summer of 2004, the redesign of Bucknell’s web presence led to the introduction of the myBucknell portal. Goal was to make website externally focused. Community members gained access to a website created especially for them based on their role(s) at the university. Student, faculty, and staff – August, 2004 Alumni and parent – January, 2005 Incoming student – May, 2005 Over the last two years, ISR has worked with the campus community to enhance myBucknell with the goal of providing the Bucknell community with a tool that meets their needs.

http://www.bucknell.edu/isr Cradle to Grave approach with students myBucknell is designed to meet students’ needs at the various phases of their Bucknell career. Beginning with matriculation and continuing through their lifelong role as alumni, Bucknellians have access to this information-rich tool. During each stage of their Bucknell experience, the student receives access to information tailored to their current status, along with helpful tools such as community building groups that engage them in the Bucknell community.

http://www.bucknell.edu/isr Incoming Students Incoming students receive access to myBucknell 4-6 months before arriving on campus. Over 99% of the incoming classes use myBucknell to access: Bucknell email Critical information they need as an incoming student “Welcome from the Dean” Student Health info What to bring and not bring to campus Athletic team tryout information My Due Dates channel that provides them with important dates and deadlines throughout the summer months. Students complete housing surveys, learn their room assignments, take placement tests and register for classes.

http://www.bucknell.edu/isr Students myBucknell is quickly becoming the primary means by which students access information on campus. Students have single sign in access to: Blackboard, WebMail, Library System, E-recruiting, BannerWeb, and other systems through myBucknell Student organizations and employers use the Groups tool as a community tool and resource. Interactive – use for elections, getting involved, completing forms and registrations

http://www.bucknell.edu/isr Alumni The alumni view of myBucknell provides alumni with the opportunity to stay connected with Bucknell as well as with their classmates. Alumni can: Stay current on Bucknell news and events Connect with classmates and friends Set up life-long email forwarding Access a career tab that provides valuable career services from the Alumni Career Services office

The Incoming Parent view provided FERPA information Due date information College Transition information Orientation Evaluation Parent view provides Mix of alumni and student role FERPA/College Transition Gifts from Home Break information (shuttles, storage)

The goal was to provide library (ISR) content that went beyond the generic ISR web page. Channels include Single sign on to Library account myLibrarian and myDatabase channel customized for their department(s) or major(s) Access to services that will likely interest them Scholarly communication – faculty Creating bibliographies - students

http://www.bucknell.edu/isr Partnerships Partnerships between ISR and other departments have made an impact. Development and Alumni Relations and ISR have collaborated to develop the alumni view. Housing and Residential Life jumped into the portal early in its development and began using the myBucknell Groups tool as an online community for their Resident Assistants (RAs). They are also involved in the Incoming Student and Student portals.

http://www.bucknell.edu/isr Partnerships cont’d The Registrar’s office has used myBucknell to simplify common tasks for students and faculty. Quick channels for submitting and reviewing semester grades makes everyone’s life easier. Dean of Students staff take a role in providing content for incoming students to engage them in the community before they arrive on campus.
