www.GentnerGroup.com Constructing the Model (Aggregate, aggregate, aggregate) Models based on aggregations – Can’t capture every industry IMPLAN based on NAICS – NAICS has thousands of industry categories – IMPLAN aggregates that down to 524 sectors, including the public sector Modeler must: – Match appropriate sectors to expenditure categories – Balance ease of use with accuracy Decided to include 5 calculator entry categories – Project state – Freshwater/saltwater – 3 expenditure categories
6
www.GentnerGroup.com Methodology Reviewed past projects Developed categories – Administration/Technical Consulting – Construction Materials – Construction Labor Freshwater/Saltwater Results in 6 custom aggregated industry sectors
7
www.GentnerGroup.com Methodology Find industries in IMPLAN that match those expenditures If it is a composite, aggregate across industries Freshwater/Saltwater – Primary difference in materials and labor – Saltwater tends to use the same materials as freshwater except marine aquaculture products (oysters etc.) – Saltwater tends to use the same labor except it also uses barges and boats Reservoir projects, or those projects with a substantial amount of boat time and/or aquaculture products, should select freshwater
