The voluntary sector is made up of 2 main types of organisations: Charities - Can you think of any examples...? Voluntary Organisations - Can you think of any examples...?

Charities All charities must be registered Each charity has its own Charity Number The Government keeps a Register of Charities There is no individual owner of a charity

Charities Control and management: a Board of Trustees - who are unpaid Finance: donations from the public, Government Grants, Lottery funding, sales from their shops and/or fund raising Objectives: to relieve poverty, to advance religion, to advance education, to carry out activities beneficial to the community.

Voluntary Organisations These organisations are run and staffed by volunteers They bring together people with similar interests Small sports clubs (cricket, bowls, rugby) are common Voluntary Organisations

Voluntary Organisations Control and management: elected members, Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer Finance: Government Grants, Lottery funding and/or membership fees Objectives: to provide an opportunity to participate in an activity otherwise not available or help young people in the local area
