These industries play a small role in the Hawaiian economy, however, due to the considerable shipping distance to viable markets, such as the West Coast of the United States. 8 Culture. Music of Hawaii: Folk music Jawaiian ( Jawaiian is a Hawaiian style of reggae music. Reggae music is a genre that evolved in the late 1960’s and early 70’s in Jamaica.) Jazz Ukulele ( These small guitars are called the cavaquinho. The instrument became a very popular one in Hawaiian culture, and a majority of Hawaiian songs involve the ukulele ) ‘ Ū k ē k ē (The Ukeke is a Hawaiian musical bow played with the mouth. It's the only stringed instrument indigenous to Hawaii.)

9 Customs and etiquette in Hawaii : Visits and gifts (When visiting a home, it is considered good manners to bring a small gift (for example, a dessert) for one's host..) The birthday luau (It is customary for Hawai‘i families, regardless of ethnicity, to hold a luau to celebrate a child's first birthday. In Polynesian cultures (and also in Korean culture), the first birthday is considered a major milestone.) Wedding customs (it is a tradition for a Japanese-American bride to fold 1,001 paper cranes prior to her wedding for good luck and long life.)
