Who am I? Why am I here? What will I talk about? - The science of Climate Change - The Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) - The Solution Green Loans - Free Home Energy Assessment (90 Minutes) - Free Report - Interest free Loan - My Successes
2
CO 2 is a Greenhouse Gas No atmosphere – 30 degrees colder CO 2 contributes 6 degrees - Historical levels = 250 ppm - Current levels = 390 ppm (+3 degrees) - Projected 2050 = 550 ppm (+6 degrees) It is much more complex, but all bad The full effect of current levels is still coming
3
Positive feedback – Runaway changes As Arctic Ice melts – absorbs more heat As Greenland Ice sheet melts - slips into the sea Arctic Tundra melts – releases methane Bottom Line – We have no idea what we are doing
4
Rising Temperatures, Rising sea levels, Extremes of weather Floods, Droughts, Water Shortages, Bushfires Food Shortage, Disease, Wars, Mass Migration How many people will die? 300,000,000
5
A Cap and Trade System Prices rise, people reduce usage Prices rise, renewable power becomes viable A Tax is equivalent to Cap & Trade $20 a Tonne (6 cents a litre) nothing happens $100 a Tonne (30 cents a litre) things happen - Tax sets cost, Market sets Usage - Cap & Trade sets usage, Market sets cost
6
CPRS earns $8 billion a year ($20/tonne) Could give it all to people ($400 each) 50% to people 40% to Business 10% to mitigation - Compensation to Power Companies - Payments to Trade Exposed Industries - Rebate on Petrol - Payments to disadvantaged
7
At best, it delivers 70% reductions in emissions At least 15 years away Not feasible under $40 a tonne In 30 years time, 70% will not be good enough A stop gap measure. Can dig coal for another 10 years Better spent on renewables
8
Limited to Gas/Oil/Coal Agriculture/Forestry excluded Agriculture half in Stops Personal Endeavour Locks in Mediocrity Based on Politically Acceptability, not Science Requires International Agreement
9
Will not guarantee reductions Cannot deliver beyond 5% Sets no long term direction Agricultural savings difficult to measure No incentive to reduce petrol/electricity/gas
10
Global Agreement difficult to achieve CPRS of limited value Book By David Spratt Declare “Code Red” Consider Pearl Harbour 25%/50% morally indefensible

Installed Solar Hot Water Installed Solar Panels Bought a Prius Bought Zoned Ducted Heating Bought a new Fridge Installed Compact Fluorescent Globes Sealed holes in wall Seals around Windows Seals around Doors Swapped dishwasher to Hot Water Fixed insulation in Roof Installed Low Flow Shower Heads Close Curtains in Winter at Sunset Open doors in Summer at Sunset Reduce heater temperature from 18 to 17 Use Fans rather than Air Conditioner Remove Shade sail at start of winter Trim Shrubs at start of winter Gas - 60% reduction - $680 Electricity - 37% reduction - $610 Petrol - 30% reduction - $1,100 Annual Savings Installed a Water Tank Water - 40% reduction - $200

Climate Change is Real Climate Change is Man Made Climate Change is Deadly Must go on to a War Footing We can make a Difference Need 50% reduction in 15 years, 90% in 40 years, 110% in 50 years Cuts must be Real, not Offsets (indulgences) Get a Free Home assessment And a Green Loan to fix your house! Cannot wait for World Agreement
