The Springboks (Rugby team name) were dear to the hearts of South Africa's white Afrikaners and hated by the nation's black majority. By donning their emblem, Mandela reconciled a nation fractured and badly damaged by racism and hatred. With their World Cup win in 1995, Mandela’s support of the team the team’s hard work helped bridge the divide between whites and blacks in the country.

18. FIFA World Cup 2010 Mandela helped South Africa earn the honor of hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2010.
