On the provided copies of the following three slides, review the requirements and highlight the elements that apply to your school.

In Michigan’s School Improvement Action Portfolio, there are three pages of Required Elements. These pages are grids with x’s in boxes. The first page has the Required Elements that are built into the SIP template. The next two pages are Additional Required Strategies that need to be included in the plan, but are not in the template. These elements will eventually be in the MDE template, but aren’t there yet!
The next slide shows the cover of the Action Portfolio and the slide after that shows what the grids look like.

Uses specific, planned, research and/or evidence-based instructional practices
Addresses system practices that were identified as challenges in the needs assessment
Focuses on maximizing each student’s growth and individual success
Done to, or with, students to develop a specific result

Having clarified/discussed gaps and challenges utilizing your data, the next step is to merge these ideas into 3-4 teacher strategy statements (which may be grade level specific).
Criteria for Strategy Statement
Begin each statement with “Teachers will...” (and/or which specific group of teachers).
Use an action verb of observable behavior which must be done.
Write clear, concise statements that describe what you intend to accomplish. (Be specific.)
Make sure each teacher strategy addresses the issue and connects back to the measurable objective.

Examples of Strategy Statements:
General education teachers, in collaboration with Students with Disabilities teachers, will plan a series of meetings to discuss potential interventions and support systems for at-risk students in learning geometric vocabulary and transformations.
K-12 teachers will create lesson plans based on GLCEs & HSCEs, specifically incorporating a variety of instructional strategies.
Teachers in grades K-12 will identify gaps in their mathematics curriculum based on the GLCEs & HSCEs.
Teachers in grades K-12 will use the identified gaps information to begin a search of available research-based resources and document findings.
