5. How to maintain your windows... The 3-minute Test Unlock or release latch Gently push open window without using force. For sliding windows, slide gently without using force Stand straight and look straight at the window

6. Any slanting, sloping or bending of the window? Close the window without using force. If force is needed to close the window, check for any obstruction or rusty component Open and close the windows 8 to 10 times to test the operational efficiency Check all components for rust, deformation of loose components (levers, latches, hinges, friction stays, rivets, screws, etc.)

7. Maintaining your windows.... For casement windows, check the rivets. If they are aluminum rivets or screws, have a BCA Certified Window Installer replace these to stainless steel ones. Use brush to brush off all dirt, sand particles and iron filings from the tracks and movable parts.

9. Use clean cloth to clean the dirt. If minor specks of rust are found on any part of the window, use a wire to brush off the rust and apply anti-rust agent. If screws or other components are badly rusted, have them replaced.

11. Lubrication.... Lubricate sliding shoe for casement windows, side and top hung windows. For sliding windows, lubricate the railings/tracks.

13. Lubricate pivot points.

14. Tighten screws

15. Replace: rusty rivets, screws, etc. damaged friction stays, handles, latches, levers, hinges, etc. missing safety stoppers cracked or broken glass panels or vanes

17. Regular maintenance helps... but is no guarantee that windows would not fall due to accidents....
