20 MISSION AND VISION STATEMENT THE MISSION OF THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT IS TO… WORK WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS TO HELP ALL STUDENTS IDENTIFY THEIR STRENGTHS AND LOVE WHO THEY ARE AS INDIVIDUALS; FOSTER AN ENVIRONMENT FOR THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF LEARNING ; AND PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE COUNSELING PROGRAM THAT WILL CHALLENGE EVERY CHILD TO BECOME A LEADER IN ACADEMICS, CAREER, AND PERSONAL/SOCIAL DOMAINS. THE VISION OF THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT IS… FOR OUR CHILDREN TO LOVE THEMSELVES AND EACH OTHER, LEARN TOGETHER, AND LEAD FULFILLING LIVES.

23 IDENTIFIED NEEDS IN 2012-2013 MLK HAD A TOTAL OF 119 DISCIPLINE INFRACTIONS. OUR GOAL FOR THE 2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR WAS TO DECREASE OUR DISCIPLINE INFRACTIONS BY 20% TO 90 INFRACTIONS. UNFORTUNATELY, WE DID NOT MEET THIS GOAL. OUR TOTAL DISCIPLINE INFRACTIONS FOR THE 2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR WAS 227. THIS SCHOOL YEAR WE WOULD LIKE TO TRY TO MEET OUR PREVIOUS GOAL OF DECREASING INFRACTIONS BY 20% TO A TOTAL OF 182 INFRACTIONS FOR THE TOTAL YEAR. WE WILL ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL WITH OUR LEADER IN ME INITIATIVE THROUGH THE YEAR AND BY TEACHING BULLYING PREVENTION IN POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT THROUGH WHOLE GROUP GUIDANCE LESSONS. WE WILL ALSO HAVE STUDENTS WHO HAVE MORE THAN 3 INFRACTIONS PARTICIPATE IN SMALL GROUP DESIGNED TO WORK ON POSITIVE BEHAVIORS IN THE CLASSROOM.
