Coming to a workplace near you!!!! Food safety is a priority for healthcare workers at home and on the job.

1) How old is this food? What is the expiration date? 2) Has it been at room temperature for more than 2 hours? If so throw it away. 3) Was the produce stored with raw meat? 4) Has this cooked food been stored in the refrigerator for more than 4 days? If so throw it away.

1) Ask the patient how long has that food been sitting on your table? ( Some juices require refrigeration) 2) Would you like to wash your hands? 3) Is this patient neutropenic? If so, make sure the food is safe and clean. No fresh produce allowed due to risk of dirt contamination. 4) Are my hands clean?

1) Foods reach room temperature in about two hours. This includes hot or cold foods. 2) At room temperature, bacteria can double every twenty minutes!!!! Once food reaches room temperature the multiplying BEGINS! 3) Follow the guidelines for cleaning, cooking, separating, and chilling. See the website for details on these four guidelines. 4) Surprisingly, pet food can become contaminated with salmonella and can infect people especially kids. Follow safe food rules with pet food.
