A systematic approach to teaching students conflict resolution skills. A.G.B.U. Manoogian-Demirdjian School 2013-2014

Develop self-awareness and self-management skills to achieve school and life success. Develop the necessary skills to handle peer conflicts effectively. Learn how to resolve peer conflicts fairly and responsibly using 6 basic steps. Reduce common problems such as disagreements, teasing, aggression, name calling, etc…

1. Stop and Understand the conflict. 2. Share your concern. 3. Listen without interruptions. 4. Brainstorm and agree on a solution. 5. Forgive/Thank 6. Talk to an adult if conflict repeats.

1. I agree to work to solve the problem. 2. I agree to tell the truth. 3. I agree to take turns to speak using “I” statements. 4. I agree to listen to what the other person has to say without interruptions. 5. I agree not to blame, attack, or engage in put-downs. 6. I agree that every idea has a value and everyone is equal. 7. I agree to work on a solution that both of us are pleased with.

All students at A.G.B.U. Manoogian-Demirdjian School will be using a systematic approach to handle conflicts All students will be introduced to 6 basic conflict resolution steps. This approach enables all students to develop the necessary skills to handle peer conflicts effectively. Encourages students listen to other points of view, express their thoughts, and find solution that works for both of them.

Introduction to a school-wide approach to conflict resolution(presented by the school counselor). Conflict resolution steps will be reinforced in the classroom. On going instruction and discussion will be held through classroom meetings, guidance lessons, assemblies, and guest speakers. Adults may act as mediators to help the students resolve their problems(rules and guidelines need to be set.) Students can be referred to the school counselor for any unresolved conflicts.
