Usually starts during the early teens and early twenties with a mean age of seventeen years old Reported mostly among young, white middle to upper class females in modern industrialize countries Idea women models and mass media of the ideal body type (thinness) plays a major role in anorexia nervosa

5 to 20 % of anorexics die Approximately 2.5 % of college students are anorexic 90 to 95% females are more likely than males to become anorexic
