2 Kovinastroj Gastronom, Factory of Catering Equipment d.d. The company was established 47 years ago The largest producer of catering equipment in Slovenia (151 employees) One half of our equipment is exported (EU, Russia, Balkan countries and the Middle East) Turn-key kitchen projects

6 We stated: Similar problems were found in other Slovene metal industry companies Institutions (University, Chamber of Commerce, Agency for regional Development) were making efforts to improve collaboration with business sector Some suppliers and supporting companies were trying to improve business collaboration with metal industry The Slovenian Government and the European Union were supporting R&D and competitiveness improvement programs Kovinastroj Gastronom, Factory of Catering Equipment d.d.

7 High Technology Products Manufacturers' Cluster In the year 2002 we ( metal industry companies, supporting companies and institutions ) established the High Technology Products Manufacturers' Cluster (business association of 12 companies and 4 institutions ) The project was partly financed by the Slovenian Government

8 Realized aims today: Developed new high-tech products and high- tech technologies Better competitiveness and efficiency of members (companies) on Slovenian market and foreign markets Better collaboration among metal industry companies, supporting companies and institutions in the cluster Participation in the 6th framework program High Technology Products Manufacturers' Cluster

9 Our gains and business success: In collaboration with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University in Ljubljana we developed high –tech products (e.g. a cooker for soft-boiled eggs) Sales of products with high added value increased (selling the kitchen technology and not only the kitchen appliances) Better and more professional collaboration with other partners on turn–key kitchen projects (development of the common computer controlled system for kitchens) Common and coordinated activities on foreign markets (common participation in tenders, common service network, presentations on fairs) Participation in European R&D Programs (Eureka, VI. 10 High-Tech products: THE GOLDEN EGG A cooker for soft-boiled eggs was developed. Up to 30 simultaneously prepared soft- boiled eggs can be cooked in accordance with HACCP principles! Cooking and pasteurization of eggs is controlled by built-in microcontroller Any possibility of salmonella infection is excluded The only product on the market that is intended both for cooking and serving of eggs Eggs may be stored in the cooker for several hours without any loss of quality or change of properties Kovinastroj Gastronom, Factory of Catering Equipment d.d.

11 High-Tech products: Computer controlled system for kitchens 24 hrs. temperature monitoring in cold rooms and on other refrigerated professional kitchen appliances Remote parameter set-up (temperature & time) in kitchens Temperature archiving for HACCP control In case of failures – alarming over telecommunication network (GSM-SMS message) Kovinastroj Gastronom, Factory of Catering Equipment d.d.

12 Situation in the Catering Cluster At each commercial kitchen project are engaged more companies: Company 1: Development of kitchen technology, projecting kitchens, buying some kitchen appliances on the market Company 2: Production of catering equipment Company 3: Set up and installation of catering equipment Company 4: Producer of refrigerating equipment Company 5: Producer of dishwashers Other companies (e.g. HACCP installation, etc)
