Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound’s the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. ` A B C D 4 stanzas This is a ballad because it tells a story poems speaker is Robert Frost

5 Meanings of this poem AUTHOR’S PURPOSE
- To show he is not done with his life and doesn't want to give up and realizes how much more he can accomplish and succeed at in life and that all of his fans realize he is not done with life, as said in this metaphor the horse being his fans “My little horse must think it queer”.

6 FIGURATIVE MEANING - The speaker is looking at the forest as the life cycle and has a lot to do before he is ready to pass away “and miles to go before I sleep” sleep being a metaphor for dyeing and then looking for the farm house thinking of killing himself “to stopping without a farmhouse near” but he continues on.

7 LITERAL MEANING - On the surface, this poem is a simple city. The speaker is stopping by some woods on a snowy evening. He or she takes in the lovely science in near – silence, and thinks of staying longer, but the distance yet to be traveled before he or she can rest for the night.

8 THEME - The theme is about the fact of life, sometimes you stop and think about what your life is and were it is headed and all of your choices you have made, you look forward and what has happened in your past, but you still have your future to continue on because you still have a lot to do in life and a lot can change for you.
