Project Development Team-Who We Are Established 13 years – 2 officers Part of Regeneration Programmes Team, Herefordshire Council(DT on secondment to HVOSS, HMcS PD for statutory sector ) Advice and signposting on funding/match funding/project development/business planning etc. Assistance on bid writing One funding directory per year/monthly funding update by email Services free to access (for time being!)

Project Development Figures 2004-5 – 412 enq. 2010/11 – 641 enq. / £1.15m funding approx. 2011/12 – 628 enq. / £2.8m funding approx. 2012/13 – 588 enq./ £2.9m funding approx. 2013-14 –658enq./ £3.1m funding approx. Grants: £457,000 to £300 in 2011/12 £1.1m to £400 in 2012/13 £500,000 to £220 in 2013/14

Funding Overview Funding Levels down in last four years by 25% approx. Capital – large and new build projects difficult to fund / match Revenue-core costs hard to fund, Submissions sharply up in 2013 – but overall quality is not improving!

HC Community Technology Grant Part of central government scheme for broadband rollout in rural areas For - village halls/community centres/voluntary and community organisations/parish or town councils £2000 or 80% - 20% match requirement Last deadline 15 th Jan. 2013 –possibly another round to come

Reaching Communities in Herefordshire 2011-12 - 6 out of 8 apps successful. Herefordshire IA – 3% of W.Mids total Total funding in £1.7m approx.(11% of W.Mids total- best performing region in Midlands) 2012-13 – MIND successful, 6 Projects through to final panels 2013

Heritage Lottery Fund Flexible Application Process Revamp and relaunch February 2013 to simplify process Sharing Heritage - £3k to £10k Our Heritage - £10k-£100k Both will be one round applications www.hlf.org.uk

Sport England Small Grants – up to £10,000 – apply anytime (online) Inspired Facilities – two rounds in 2013, up to £50,000 (4 grants in county so far) Improved Facilities – one off rounds for big funding. Next one Mar 2013 www.sportengland.org

Trust Funding Around 9,370 trusts in UK Reduction of approx 20% funding since 2008 Varying modes of application and levels of response – be patient! Various searches available – DSC/Grants Online/ NCVO/HC and HVOSS

Most Common Reasons For Failure of Projects Wrong Information submitted or wrong application-1 in 3 ineligible (DSC 2010)! Organisation or match funding issues Poor Budgeting or value for money Lack of supporting evidence or consultation BUT – still money for good projects…

The Future? More competition Gap in infrastructure funding Greater emphasis on sustainability More money for small community projects More joined-up/consortium working BUT… ALWAYS money for good projects
