2. Course Objectives Student will learn to Student will be able to
Effectively enforce speed laws of New Jersey
Efficient use of police traffic RADAR
Student will be able to
Identify speed violators
Properly use Doppler RADAR
Obtain accurate speed readings
Secure convictions in court

3. Course Objectives Course content Speed offense and enforcement
Basic principles of RADAR speed measurement
Legal considerations – training & operation
Court room testimony
Laser speed measurement
Requirements for duty operation
Operation of specific RADAR devices
Field exercises and evaluation

4. RADAR Operator Certification
Classroom:
Four (4) hours instruction on DCJ-approved curriculum
Supervised practical training:
Four (4) hours ride-along training
Complete field exercises in course
Independent practical training:
Eighty (80) hours, non- enforcement, operation
Valid for three (3) years

5. RADAR Operator Re-Certification
Must be completed during final year of certification
Three (3) years continuous RADAR operation following initial certification
Four (4) hours of refresher training provided by certified instructor in the following areas:
Two (2) hours of relevant case law and technology updates
Includes legal requirements for case preparation
Two (2) hours of practice training by operator
Instructor will maintain roster and issue DCJ-approved Operator Certificate

6. RADAR Instructor Certification
Satisfactory completion of RADAR operator requirements
Two (2) years experience as a RADAR operator
Successful completion of approved Police Training Academy (PTC) RADAR Instructor course
Apply to PTC for Instructor certification
If you intend to teach at a PTC-certified Academy
Valid for three (3) years

7. RADAR Instructor Re-Certification
Teach at least one RADAR course during 3-year period of Instructor Certification
Successfully complete an approved DCJ refresher course
Instructor will submit roster to DCJ for Instructor Re- Certification
Apply to PTC for Instructor Certification
Valid for three (3) years

8. Police Academy RADAR Instructors
To instruct a RADAR Instructors Course, the Instructor MUST meet the following:
Complete an approved Method of Instruction Course, and
Be approved to instruct RADAR at an approved PTC training academy
