Reporting in MS Project and SQL Server Reporting Services Gerald Leonard PMP, MSTC, CQIA and ITIL Agenda – What is SQL Server Reporting? – Reporting Questions – Challenges – Benefits of Enterprise Reporting – Reporting Lifecycle – Reporting Show and Tell
15
What is SQL Server Reporting? SQL Server Reporting Services enables organizations to transform raw and valuable enterprise data into shared information for insightful, timely decisions at a lower total cost of ownership.
16
Reporting Questions What reports do you currently use or create? What data is important in these reports? How do you use the information on these reports? How do you (would you if you could) place parameters on these reports? How do you get reports today? What type of routine/recurring analysis do you perform? What data is used? How often do you perform this analysis? How do you get the data required? What do you do with the data once you get it?
17
Challenges Manual Reporting from Multiple data sources Manual reports are out of date as soon as they are created. Unclear Distribution Channels Project Status Reports are usually not based on true schedule updates
18
Benefits of Enterprise Reporting It’s Free with your installation of SQL Server 2005 and higher A centralized repository for your enterprise reporting needs Reports can be exported in different formats Reports can be distributed through email or posted on a SharePoint or Network site.
