EXAMPLE 2 Finding the Area of a Trapezoid SOLUTION Architecture The Winslow House in River Forest, Illinois, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The front part of the roof is a trapezoid, as shown. What is its area? Write formula for area of a trapezoid. Substitute values for b 1, b 2 and h. Multiply. A = (b 1 + b 2 )h 1 2 1 2 A = (31 + 77)25 = 1350 ANSWER The front of the roof has an area of 1350 square feet.
