3 How does know if my child needs extra help?
We notice all differences in behaviour, listening skills and confidence compared to other children. Back

4 What should I do if I think my child has SEND?
Have a chat with the class teacher or Pene Frost, who is especially trained to identify and work with SEND children. They are always ready to listen! Pene Frost – Kyson’s SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) Back

5 What will the school do if they think my child has SEND?
Pene Frost will: Talk to the child. Talk to the teacher. Talk to you, the parent or guardian. Use simple tests to assess your child. Back

6 What will the school do, after deciding with me that my child needs something extra and special, to help them learn? Staff will plan and carry out special programmes of work each week. Click here to see examples! Staff will organise the classroom so that your child has the right equipment to help them. Click here to see examples! Pene Frost will meet with you each term to talk about the success and progress or sometimes the lack of it. We will invite specialists (e.g. councillors, educational psychologists, school nurse, speech therapists) to offer advice. Back

9 How will keep me informed once it has been agreed that my child has SEND?

Kyson is very successful at ensuring that children with SEND leave Year 6… feeling confident and self assured! reading, writing and able to use maths at the expected level or occasionally just below, in addition to enjoying a balanced, rich, well rounded curriculum with fun opportunities, with a high self esteem about their place in the world aware of their own needs and strategies that will help them learn Back

11 How will my child be supported on arrival in Reception and when leaving the school in Year 6?
In Reception we take the time to share all your knowledge about your child so we can plan together. In Year 5 and 6 we: arrange visits to high school talk to your child and make a transition information booklet (with photographs) together set up meetings with their high school Back

Here are a list of telephone numbers, addresses and websites that can give you more information about SEND or offer you and your SEND child extra support: Parent Partnership (SENDIASS) – they provide confidential support and advice Telephone hotline: (office hours Mon-Fri) Website: Customer First - the initial point of contact for social services in Suffolk Telephone: (this is their preferred method of contact for non-urgent enquiries) Activities Unlimited – providers of fun activities out of school for children with additional needs. 13 What happens if we disagree about something?
To sort out any disagreements there are a number of people you can talk to: Libby Brown; Kyson’s head teacher (Phone ) Doreen Bartlett; The Chair of Governors (write via Kyson at school address) Parent Partnership (now known as SENDIASS – Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service) (Phone office hours Mon-Fri) The Anglia Care Trust (ACT) have launched a free SEND Mediation and Disagreement Resolution Service. 14 What does do to prepare SEND children for adulthood?
“Stranger Danger” programme. Sex Education and adolescence lessons. “Friends for Life” – designed to lessen anxiety about new situations. E-safety – to teach children about being safe on the internet. We aim to develop resilience and self-esteem. Back
