1 Add a client A new generation of practice management software Follow the on-screen instructions and click the arrow buttons to move through this guide. Press Escape at any time to end the guide.

2 Click Next

3 Click on the Add client button

4 This screen allows you to choose an individual client or a company. (We will examine adding to an existing entity later.) Note that the Money Laundering Check will appear, you can uncheck this box if you do not have the details, but they must be completed later. Click on OK.

5 You should add the details of your client as shown. Pay particular attention to the salutation as this may appear on documents created in LawWare– you can change this as appropriate e.g. your client’s first name, or Mr & Mrs. Note that in this screen, you can also add details of your clients partner – on the partner sheet tab.This would be used for conveyancing, but should not be used when you need 2 separate files for each client, for example holding separate wills, in this case you would create 2 clients.

6 Click on the Attach evidence button The next screen to appear is the Money Laundering check. Note that a full guide on ML and Risk assessment is available. Select the type of ID, eg passport, enter the expiry date and add some further information such as the document number. You should add both primary and secondary details. If you have a scanned copy of the ID, you can attach this to the record.

7 Click Next. From here, you would browse to find the scanned copy of the ID and select it to add it to the record.

8 Click Next. The next stage is Risk Assessment (note, this may not be operational in your firm).

9 Click on Risk Assessment Stage button. Review the questions for Risk Assessment.

10 Click on OK You should answer each of the questions (this list can be customised for you). You should refer the case to your MLRO where you indicate a high risk item.

11 Click the Address button You are now ready to complete the details for the client.

12 Click Add/Edit Address

13 Click OK. Complete the details as shown.

14 Click Save You can now complete the remainder of the client’s details as shown including phone and email address.

15 Click Next As the client has now been added, Lawware prompts you to add a case file for the client. (Adding case files is examined in the How to add a case file guide).

16 At the start of this guide we looked at adding an individual, now we shall look at adding a company Click on OK.

17 When you add a company, you enter the company name and complete any relevant details:

18 Click on OK. Complete the record as shown earlier, note that the salutation field is on the main screen and can be amended.

19 Click on OK. If you have added an company and there are, for example, shareholders to be added, you would choose the option to add to an existing entity and then select the entity from the list.

20 Click on OK. If you have added individuals to an existing entity, they are known as linked clients can be viewed from with the company details by clicking on the entity button and members:

21 Click End.
