2 Needs Assessment (Insert your answers to the questions below.)
The learning opportunity would be to offer Northwest Valley Community College students the opportunity learn Spanish for the purpose of communicating in a business setting. 2. There are no courses currently available therefore it will be a new subject that will need to be added to Northwest Valley Community College. Beginning courses in Spanish should be a priority with a focus in learning to communicate in a business setting and the intention to offer continuation courses depending on the student prior knowledge. 4. One of the basic issues that should be determined through a needs analysis is student needs, student prior knowledge and how the program will be developed. The gap between what is available and student needs should be carefully assessed to make sure the Spanish language program will meet student demands. Instructional Plan Template/Spanish 101

3 Instructional Goal At the end of this course students who complete Spanish 101 should have a basic Spanish background that allows them to communicate in a business setting. Students are encouraged to continue enrolling in Spanish 102 to further expand their knowledge of Spanish in a business setting. Instructional Plan/ Spanish 101

4 Performance-Based Objectives
Identify two PBOs following the below guidelines: Use “ABCD” for creating objectives Audience: It is important to understand the learner (Northwest Valley Community College student population) to implement a Spanish instructional program that meets their specific needs. Conditions: Having a clear understanding on the Spanish program design, materials used, method of instruction, and how students will be evaluated to demonstrate that they are able to communicate in a business setting in a foreign language (Spanish). 5 Summative Assessment and Learning Outcomes
Through this course there will be several opportunities to demonstrate if the learner is actually understanding the material presented and incorporating it into a business setting. The learner will have the opportunity to be evaluated by participating in 16 class discussions, 3 team assignments, a midterm and a final exam. The evaluation process allows the student to demonstrate their ability to communicate in a business setting in Spanish. Feedback will be provided by the instructor to allow the student throughout the duration of the course. Instructional Plan/ Spanish 101

6 Learner Characteristics
The class will be taught at Northwest Valley Community College and the age range of students enrolled is between 20 and 45. There are 15 female students enrolled and 18 male students with an interest in learning Spanish to communicate in a business setting. All students are either already working in a business setting or have business as a major. After a needs assessment was conducted these students have demonstrated a minimal understanding of Spanish in a business setting but have the ability to understand the language verbally. 7 Learning Context This section includes the following:
The course will be taught in a combination of traditional face-to-face campus meetings and class discussions will be web-based. Student can use on-campus computer lab to connect to discussion boards and complete assignments, but testing and class lecture will be conducted during on-campus class meeting days. Material presented during class, exams, discussions, and assignments will allow the student to learn how to communicate in a business setting in Spanish. Instructional Plan/ Spanish 101

9 Delivery Modality After a careful analysis on student needs, business trends, and resources available at Northwest Valley Community College this course will be primarily taught in a traditional face to face learning environment with some web-based sessions. Students will meet on campus three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and will connect via web twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday). Instructional Plan/ Spanish 101

10 Instructional Strategies
The overall plan governing the instructional in Spanish 101 will allow student the opportunity to learn Spanish language in a business setting. Students will learn how to communicate in a business setting in Spanish with etiquette and professionalism. Students will be presented the material during class and will have the instructor to learn basic Spanish language concepts that can be applied in a business setting. Students will also meet via web with corporate professionals in the workplace and will have the opportunity to practice their verbal skills. Towards the end of the semester students will have the opportunity to present a project in Spanish based on a business setting. Instructional Plan/ Spanish 101

11 Plan for Implementation
This course will meet on campus Monday Wednesday and Friday for 1 hour and will meet via web Tuesday and Thursday for one hour . The instructor will provide copies of materials covered in class and students will purchase the required textbook “Como Desarrollar un Español Corporativo” through Northwest Valley Community College bookstore. Spanish 101 will be based on primarily with direct instruction meeting on campus three times a week. Student will also meet via web based with corporate professionals as this will allow students the opportunity to develop and apply their Spanish in a business setting. The course will meet for 16 weeks with an intense instruction in Spanish. Instructional Plan/ Spanish 101

19 Template End You have completed the three parts of the instructional plan assignment. To complete your Week Six assignment be sure to submit your entire template reflecting sections I, II, III, and the Reference slide. To finalize your instructional plan, remember to remove slides 2, 3, 10, and 16. Your final presentation should only reflect the three sections of your instructional plan. The instructions within this template should be removed. Note: Students must upload the final completed Instructional Plan (Parts I, II, and III) to their personal Presentation Portfolio in TaskStream. (This is required.)
