What aspects of your job do you enjoy? So much music involved in day to day activity Music classes Extra circular band practices

what was the biggest factor that affected your career? Previous jobs in different schools Negative factors such as teaching k-6 Positive factors such as his current job

How did your dream job affect your career? He was inspired by music in grade 7 He wanted to be a performing musician He took teaching classes to compliment his teaching degree

What made you interested in teaching? Influenced by teaching role models Was a good back up for a performing musician

if you could go back and change your career path, would you? “Knowing how its worked out, i wouldn’t go back and change”

what causes most stress in your job, how do you cope? Lack of time Increases in administrational pressures (paperwork, organizing trips)

How much time do you spend on your job? 50 hours a week Split between different bands, organizing trips and paper work dominently

do you get to travel often with your job, where? Band trips every second year Visited: Fredericton, New York City, California, Florida and Ottawa

How did your first job affect your current career? First job was a shock, moving from theory of teaching to actually doing it Wakeup call, things don’t always go perfectly but you can make things work

what kind of education level is required to be a music teacher? Bachelor of education Bachelor of music education 5 years of university

How has technology affected your job? Printing sheet music Communication to band members Hard to get away from his job

How has your job affected choices you have made in your personal life? Vacation times are limited to July or August Interferes with personal time due to ample communication

How will your job will affect the decisions you make in your retirement? Passion for music will extend into retirement More time will be set aside for personal goals

how will teaching music change in the next 10 years? More technology involved More specialization of fields due to technology However the way teaching music is done hasn’t changed majorly in 60 years

what professional achievement are you most proud of? Conducting a band at downtown Disney World Whenever former students go to music school

what advice would you give to an aspiring music teacher? Don’t lose sight of why you love music When things are frustrating focus on the joy of sharing knowledge

How do others affect you in your workplace? Making good friends in the workplace

Do you like your working hours? Starting an hour later would make mornings easier Mostly hours aren’t an issue

What benefits does your job offer? Summers off, week break at Easter, Christmas Opportunity for travel (band trips)

would you rather work alone or in a team? The whole band acts as a team Paperwork or trip planning preferably would be a more personal process
