Microsoft Licensing: The Best Option for You
2
Which one is best for your organization? There are several licensing options available from Microsoft.
3
OEM Software This software is pre-installed on a new PC. This license is applicable to the PC only. OEM software licenses can only be transferred with the sale or transfer of the PC that the software originally came preinstalled on. Note: include OS licensing language here.
4
Full Packaged Product (FPP) or Retail Product FPP is software that is acquired from a retail store. FPP is recommended for home and for businesses with less than five PCs.
5
Full Packaged Product (FPP) or Retail Product The license for FPP is transferable with the software only if all original components (media, COA, manuals, etc.) are transferred along with the license. If the software is moved from one PC to another, the license moves with it. In some instances, the license agreement only allows for a one-time transfer.
6
Open License A volume license program designed for corporate, government, charity and academic organizations. Open License is recommended for organizations with five or more PCs.
7
Open License Open License can save organizations up to 20% over FPP (retail product). License information is stored at the secure eOpen site. The number of licenses must match the number of PCs on which the software is installed.
8
Select License This volume license program is available only through Large Account Resellers (LARs). Select License is recommended for organizations with 250 or more PCs who are able to forecast software license acquisitions over a three-year period. License information is stored at the secure Microsoft Volume License Services site.
9
Enterprise Agreement This volume license program is available only through Large Account Resellers (LARs). Enterprise license agreements are designed for larger companies that want to standardize their software licensing.
10
Enterprise Agreement Enterprise Agreement is recommended for organizations that have 250 or more desktops and that are looking to standardize their licensing on one or more of the Microsoft Platform Enterprise Products (Office Professional, Windows Professional upgrade and Core Client Access License).
11
Enterprise Agreement Enterprise Agreement offers discounted prices based on a three-year term. License information is stored at the secure Microsoft Volume License Services site.
