3 Why it Matters to You SAFETY People who abuse alcohol or drugs are three and a half times more likely to be involved in a workplace accident. 20% of workers report being injured or put in danger on the job because of a coworker’s drinking. ABSENTEEISM Workers with a substance abuse disorder miss 45% more days per year. HEALTH Alcohol and substance abuse cause serious medical problems including cardiovascular, neurological impairments, liver disease, stroke and cancer. 5 Who are the Peer Volunteers? ●Peers are PG&E employees who are either in long-term recovery or have a loved one who is. ●They volunteer to assist employees and their family members into recovery. ●They have been trained by the Employee Assistance Program and have access to mental health professionals if needed. www.peervolunteers.org Tim Dixon Gas Service Rep.
