Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) Helps governments decide how policies need to be adjusted, and where resources need to be reallocated to address poverty and gender inequalities.

UNIFEM United Nations Development Fund for Women, Gender Response Budgeting “Ensuring that national planning, budgeting and monitoring and evaluation processes incorporate a gender perspective.”

UNIFEM UNIFEM began initiative in 2001 As of 2009, UNIFEM is supporting GRB work in 45 countries

Early Years of GRB (2001-2005) Focused on making gender budgeting tools available Increase capacity to carry out gender budget analysis Improve budgeting and planning process to enhance gender equality Increase implementation of gender equality plans and policies

Later Years of GRB (2005-Now) Ensure the national budgeting reflect in poor women’s priorities National budget reflect gender equality principles Priorities of poor and excluded women reflect in budget allocations

GRB at the Local Level Strengthen women’s representation in local bodies Support their participation in the budget process Create awareness of gender budget analysis and allocation for local women’s priorities
