Marc Chagallné Moishe Zakharovich Shagalovest Jewish painter, born on 7 July 1887 in Vitebsk, Belarus, french naturalized in 1937 and died on 28 March 1985 in Saint-Paul de Vence. His work, not related to any school, has characteristics of surrealism and néoprimitivisme. Inspired by the Jewish tradition, the life of the shtetl (Jewish village in Eastern Europe) and the Russian folklore, it develops its own symbolic around the intimate life of the artist. Chagall was tried, in addition to painting on canvas, poetry, painting on glass, enamel, etc.. A museum is devoted to Nice.
