3. 2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

4.  What is diligence?  “to use speed… to make effort [be] earnest” (Strong)  It is used of focused, intense effort – 2 Timothy 4.9,21  How can I approach the Scripture with diligence?  I set aside time for meditation – Psalm 1.2; 119.147-148  I approach God’s word with prayer – Psalm 119.12,18  I live consistently with what I read – Psalm 119.34-39

5.  What is my position?  I am subservient; I am a worker – 2 Timothy 2.15  David repeatedly recognizes his rightful position:  I am a servant; God is my Lord – Psalm 119.12,17  He is a commander; I am a servant – Psalm 119.19,23  I am a servant to the merciful Judge – Psalm 119.35-41  He is the ruler; I am his dedicated servant – Psalm 119.55f

6.  Why should I approach God’s word?  It is “the word of truth.” – 2 Timothy 2.15  The nature of God’s word:  He is good; we need His guidance – Psalm 119.68  Salvation is revealed in His word – Psalm 119.81  God’s word is settled – Psalm 119.89  God leads us away from what is false – Psalm 119.104  His word guides us perfectly – Psalm 119.105
