What is Downloading? Downloading allows you to save content from the internet to you computer You can save: Webpage’s Images from webpage’s Files such as PDF (Portable Document Files) and computer programmes Image source: http://www.bestanimations.com/http://www.bestanimations.com/

Referencing What is referencing? Referencing is the acknowledgement of books, articles, websites, and any other material that is used when writing a report or project, etc… Images source: Microsoft Clipart Online

Referencing How to reference an image? When you insert an image into a document from the internet you should cite the web address of where you copied the image from An example is shown on the next slide

How to save a webpage To save a webpage you must first open your Internet Explorer and load the webpage you want to view Once this is done Click on the “Page” menu and click “Save As”

How to save a webpage Once you click “Save As” the “Save Webpage” window opens Now type the name you want for the file and click “Save” NB: Don’t forget that you can save this file to any location as discussed in previous lessons

Using Favourites You can also save a webpage to your favourites and this will be stored in the favourites folder in your web browser

Using Favourites How is this done? To do this click on the “Add to Favourites” icon in your web browser Then click “Add to Favourites” Alternatively you can press Ctrl +D as a shortcut to this

Using Favourites The following dialog box will appear where you can name the page Once this is complete click “Add”

Using Favourites Once you have saved the page in your favourites you can access it here again by clicking on the “Favourites Centre” tab in the browser

How to save an Image A “Save Picture” window will now open where you can save it to a location you want and you can also type a name for the file Once again press “Save”

How to save a File On some webpage’s it is possible that there will be documents such as PDF, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc… that you can save to your computer Once they are saved to your computer you can open and view them

How to save a File When you find the document you want to save from a website to your computer, you can click on it to open it You can now save the document using the same procedure as before for a webpage

Editing and Reproduction in a DTP Package After you have saved webpage's and images to your computer it is possible to edit these to reproduce reports, documents, etc… in a DTP package

Editing and Reproduction in a DTP Package What is a DTP package? DTP- DeskTop Publishing A DTP package allows you to produce high quality reports, booklets and magazines Microsoft Word and Publisher is an example of a DTP and they provide pre- designed templates for a wide range of documents

Once you chose a design, it is possible to change the information on it such as phone numbers and addresses You can also add your own information and images if desired to create the document you want

Visit the website http://www.howstuffworks.com/http://www.howstuffworks.com/ Do a search for “how car engines work” Using Microsoft Word or Publisher create a brochure to inform about the operation of car engines You should include images from the website if possible Don’t forget to reference!
