What We had To Do  Research uses of lasers.  Learn about the laser kit and safety precautions.  Build a basic laser and record the power of it in a video.  Create a security perimeter using the lasers and mirrors.  Make real life connections of having lasers as a security perimeter.  Research the Law Of Conservation of energy.  Demonstrate how sound can be sent across lasers in a video that explains the forms of energy the lasers convert in the process of transferring noise.  Make a flow chart to explain the forms of energy that the laser converts from electrical energy then goes through different forms as it shoots sound across the laser.  Make this PowerPoint.

Uses of Lasers  Lasers are used in the medical field for things such as cutting skin very accurately, getting skin back together, post cardiac surgery treatments, as well as many other important uses.  Lasers are used to cut certain types of material.  Lasers are used to scan barcodes when you are checking out.  Lasers read CDs and other types of discs.  Lasers are used to copy things and print them out on the printer.  Lasers can be used to get down to temperatures as low as 10 -9 K.  Lasers are used for very accurate measurements of something.  Another way we use lasers today are for tattoo removal.

Uses of Lasers Lasers are used to apply sealants at the dentist office.

Uses of Lasers In Construction Lasers can be used to seal pipes or cut material accurately that most things could not cut.

These were the first pictures that we took. These were all In the first box that we took out. The uses parts are labeled above. The mirrors and security system were used for the laser security perimeter. The auxiliary cord was used for the laser security perimeter and transferring sound over a laser. These are the stands and the power cord to give everything electricity. This is the laser. This is the photometer receiver

You Can Use Lasers Safely in the Classroom By:  Wearing glasses that protect your eyes from the laser beam.  Using a sign that represents the use lasers.  Use an area where the laser won’t effect other people.  Close the door so that the laser doesn’t effect anyone else's eyes

A Basic Laser This laser had the power of 9.49nm

A Laser Security Perimeter

Real World Applications Of Using Lasers For Security  Lasers are used for security purposes as detecting extra movement in a house.  They can detect the movement and be programmed to turn on a video camera when that happens.  The lasers are used to detect when their beam is broken.

Law of Conservation Of Energy  Energy can not be created or destroyed but it can be transformed.  The total amount of energy in a system remains constant.  When we use energy, it is being changed from one form to another.

Forms of Energy Kinetic Energy  An example of kinetic energy is when a ball is flying through the air it has kinetic energy because of its motion and it could have an effect on something if it hits it. Potential Energy  An object is considered to have potential energy if it can be moved or it moves and its energy can accelerate, for example the ball in the last example before the game in which it is thrown.

Forms of Energy Thermal/Heat Energy  A cup of hot chocolate has thermal energy because of the molecules moving around in the hot chocolate that are vibrating and moving. They have both kinetic and potential energy because of this so they have thermal energy. Chemical Energy  The blood sugar or glucose in our bodies has chemical energy because the glucose releases energy when it is chemically reacted with oxygen. Chemical energy is a form of microscopic potential energy.

Forms of Energy Sound Energy  Sound waves are made up of both potential and kinetic energy in the form of air molecules. For example when you hit a drum it makes the air nearby compressed, giving it potential energy then the air expands to give it kinetic energy, therefore making sound waves. Electrochemical Energy  Electrochemical energy is combined chemical energy and electricity. An example would be a battery.

Sending Sound Across Lasers

The laser has kinetic energy when the laser beam is in motion. The laser has potential energy before the laser sends a beam across to final surface. A laser has thermal energy when it first shoots across because it has to heat up to send a beam. The laser has Electrical energy when the electricity from the wall and converts the energy into sending the laser. A laser has electromagnetic energy when the light from the laser beam shoots across. The laser has sound energy when it is taking the music from a phone and sends it across the laser to the photometer and the photometer plays the music.

What We Learned  We learned how to safely use lasers in the classroom.  We learned how to make a basic laser, laser security perimeter, and how to send sound across a laser.  We learned about the laws of conservation of energy.  We learned about different forms of energy.  We learned about different things that lasers are used for.

How we collaborated  We each worked on the lasers.  We took turns working on our PowerPoint.  We switched off taking pictures and videos.  We took turns doing our blog.
