Compass Rose – direction indicator on a map Cardinal Directions – North, South, East and West Intermediate Directions – NE, NW, SE, SW, etc.

International Date Line
INDIVISIBLE north to south line that passes through the Pacific Ocean. Use to indicate global position.

Prime Meridian 0° line of longitude. Located in Greenwich, England. Used to determine global position.

Latitude and Longitude
Latitude – lines running east to west to determine global position. Longitude – lines running north to south to determine global position.

Equator & Hemisphere Equator – imaginary line around the center of earth to help determine global position. Hemisphere – how the earth is divided. Equator determines hemisphere.

Exact Location An exact location on earth. Example: Blue Marlin Drive or 30°N and 90°W Relative Location An approximate location on Earth. Example: North of Mandeville or on Soult Street
