Traditional Cable Networks (CATV) Consists of a cable TV office (headend) with receiving antenna Unidirectional coaxial cable with amplifiers (approximately every 8,000 feet) Splitters and coaxial taps separate off to neighborhood and household

Hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) Network Regional cable head (similar to cable office of CATV) Branches to multiple distribution hubs –High bidirectional bandwidth fiber with amplifiers Switches separate neighborhoods with fiber Which then converts to a coaxial cable

Setbacks Consumers need either a new HDTV or set- top box Broadcasters would need a variety of new equipment Cable operators need to convert all their equipment and set-top boxes over Copyright protection flags
