Credibility Lifeguard for 5 years Pool Operator certified Member of pool for 15 years CPR and First Aid certified

WHY?? 250 children under age 5 drown annually in swimming pools Most children that drown are supervised Even if you know how to swim, pools can still be dangerous In 2000, there were 3,432 in the United States 19% of drowning deaths occur at a pool with certified lifeguards

Home Pool Safety Put a fence completely around your pool Never let children swim unsupervised Use a cover when pool not used Keep rescue equipment nearby Keep toys out of the pool while children are not in it Secure the pool after each use

Home Pool Safety Use a vest for a child’s flotation For above ground, secure ladders and steps Only dive in proper area Never use alcohol or drugs while swimming

Local Pool Safety Swim in areas where the lifeguard can see you Know your limits Read and obey all posted rules Watch out for dangerous “too’s” Listen to the lifeguards Wear sun screen and stay hydrated

Local Pool Safety If children are young, watch them Don’t use rafts Take breaks every hour Keep young children in the shallow end Dive only in approved areas Remember, lifeguards aren’t babysitters!!

Handling Chemicals Wear protective equipment Keep in a secure area Know your chemicals Never mix chemicals unless necessary Keep the chemicals dry Never allow children to handle chemicals Have access to water nearby Follow instructions on the label

Hot Tub and Spa Keep chemical levels in range Don’t soak for too long Keep the temperature in proper range Consult a physician if you have any health conditions Never submerge your head “Tub Together”
