Pipeline Safety Enhancement Program - PSEP Inspecting and Modernizing Pipelines Hydrostatic Pressure Testing Pipeline Replacement Internal Pipeline Inspection Pipeline Retrofits Modernizing Pipeline Valves Improving Record Keeping Taking Immediate Safety Steps Leak Surveys Reducing Pressure
3
2012-2014 Proposed Work
4
Hydrostatic Pressure Testing PG&E is pressure testing gas transmission pipelines in more parts of our service area than ever before: Inform the community Isolate the pipeline Clear the pipeline Test the pipeline strength Reconnect the gas system
5
Cities with Hydrostatic Tests Brisbane (L-132) Daly City (L-109, L-132) Hillsborough (L-109) Menlo Park (L-109) Redwood City (L-109) San Carlos (L-132) San Mateo (L-109) South San Francisco (L-132)
6
Pipeline Replacement PG&E is identifying the transmission pipelines in our gas network that need to be replaced: Inform the community Install the new pipe Inspect and test Connect the new pipe
7
Cities with Pipeline Replacements San Mateo County/SFPUC (L-109) Hillsborough (L-109) South San Francisco (L-109) Menlo Park (L-109)
8
Internal Pipeline Inspections PG&E is expanding our interior-pipeline inspection program to cover more miles of pipeline than ever before: Inform the community Inspect the pipeline: Motorized camera High-tech “smart pig”
9
Pipeline Retrofits Many of our pipelines were designed and constructed before modern inspection tools called “smart pigs” were developed. These important devices travel through large pipelines to inspect welds and pipeline thickness, and identify any weaknesses such as dents or corrosion: Inform the community Install the access point Clear the pipeline: Modify the pipeline Test the new features
10
Valve Automation We have several types of automation projects: replacing existing valves, adding or changing automation for existing valves, or installing valves in new locations: Inform the community Prepare the pipeline Install valve automation Test and connect the valve
11
Cities with Valve Automations Brisbane (Martin Station) Daly City (Sullivan, Martin Station) Hillsborough (Crystal Springs) Menlo Park (Van Buren and Ringwood, Sand Hill) San Carlos (Commercial Way rescheduled to 2013) San Mateo (Birch and Delaware) San Mateo County (Edgewood, Halfmoon Bay Tap)

Customer outreach efforts: PG&E has a comprehensive plan for customer and community outreach regarding our tests and field work: Letters sent to all residents and businesses near the area where testing will take place, with the following information: Overview of hydrostatic testing and video assessment What the community may see Invitation to attend an Open House Contact information to speak to PG&E representatives Project fact sheets will be included with the letters that will describe the work, what customers can expect, and when the work will be completed Open Houses where customers can have their questions answered by PG&E representatives and subject matter experts Door hangers placed on residences nearest to construction activity to remind them of work just prior to it taking place Recorded reminder messages delivered by telephone Post-test letter informing residents and businesses of the test results
13
Where to go for more information: Customer Care gas specialist representatives are available to answer questions about natural gas pipelines or the work being done in the area at 1- 888-743-7431, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
