What is “Professional Development”? Break down of how Merriam Webster’s defines… Professional: relating to a job that requires special education, training, or skill Development: the act or process of growing or causing something to grow or become larger or more advanced the act or process of creating something over a period of time the state of being created or made more advanced

What is “Professional Development”? Wikipedia includes: Encompasses all types of facilitated learning opportunities including credentials such as academic degrees to formal coursework, conferences and informal learning opportunities situated in practice. It has been described as intensive and collaborative, ideally incorporating an evaluative stage.

What does this tell us?

Learning Model: 70/20/10 70% learning by on-the-job experiences 20% learning developed through relationships, networks, feedback. 10% learning by formal training processes The 70-20-10 model builds upon how people internalize and apply what they learn based on how they acquire the knowledge.
