SWBAT write algebraic expressions using grouping symbols and the phrase less than. SWBAT write written expressions from algebraic expressions.

How can we write this as a written expressions? Let’s break it down into 2 parts. How could you write (x + 2) as a written expressions? The sum of a number and two. Make sure and say “a number” instead of “the sum of n and two” The word sum prompts you to add first. (It is telling us we need the answer. Next we combine the two parts: The sum of a number and two, times five.
