2 A SUCCESSFUL MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN… Is not a short drive in the fall that ends with a pizza party at the end of October! A successful campaign is a year-long effort!

3 MEMBERSHIP VP/CHAIRMAN…. FIRST STEPS Procedure Book Last year’s membership numbers Membership Envelopes Membership Cards Dues breakdown Know State, District, Council.. PTA “Challenges” and Awards Understand Membership Year July 1 - June 30 annually Grace period until October 31 - members may vote in fall

8 C AMPAIGN TIPS … Campaign early, and often Principal and Teachers are key Public Posting of progress Contests and prizes Highlight programs and services provided UNBUNDLE membership and volunteering Buying membership card does not mandate volunteering

9 P TA MEMBERSHIP BASICS Every member gets a card! Anyone can join Keep membership list Report Membership progress enthusiastically Only one level of membership Donations are kept separate from dues

10 COLLECT MEMBERSHIP DUES Collect all envelopes Use proper financial procedures Two (2) PTA leaders count money together Deposit funds immediately Membership Chair and Treasurer work closely to track numbers Forward funds at least monthly Does not require member approval; funds not belonging to unit/council Use Remittance Form with check to C/D; keep copy

11 C AMPAIGN C HALLENGES … A nominated officer to next school level, must be member 30 days prior to election meeting. Buy a membership when nominated Must buy new membership card after October 31 Middle and High School Focus on benefits to students Open forum discussion Q & A “Focus on Membership” Year-Round for Success!
