The Good Shepherd The meaning of good Morally good Beautiful, winsome, lovely, attractive Genuine or true Jesus is claiming this exclusively “the” Good Shepherd What makes Him the Good Shepherd? “I Am The Good Shepherd” John 10:11-18

The Good Shepherd His death was no tragedy “gives His life for the sheep” – repeated 4x 1. Jesus’ death is voluntary – reason the Father loves Jesus – Acts 2:23; Matthew 1:21 2. Jesus’ death is vicarious – not for Him but for us, “for the sheep” – Romans 5:6-8 3. Jesus’ death is specific – for those designated as His sheep – 2 Peter 2:7; John 6:70,71 4. The cause of Jesus’ death – love for His sheep “I Am The Good Shepherd” John 10:11-18

The Good Shepherd Knowing and being known Jesus knows His sheep We long to be known and know others On a human level, we want this But there is a divine level also that we do not even understand until we believe Augustine called this restlessness We are like helpless sheep There is great comfort in Jesus knowing us and being known “I Am The Good Shepherd” John 10:11-18

Application Are you comforted by the fact that God’s plan was for Jesus to die for you? Are you comforted by the fact that you are known by the Sovereign God of the universe, allowing you to know Him and others in a divine way? “I Am The Good Shepherd” John 10:11-18
