What are ELPS? English Language Proficiency Standards
ELPS are a set of standards that all ELL (LEP) students should master as they acquire English proficiency ELL- English Language Learner LEP – Limited English Proficient ELPS are a set of standards that all ELL (LEP) students should master as they acquire English proficiency. ELL- English Language Learner LEP – Limited English Proficient ELL and LEP are both used interchangeably to describe this group of students.

Proficiency Level Descriptors
Use the PLDs to determine the needs of each ELL as you plan your lessons. PLDs describe the characteristics of each proficiency level (beginning, intermediate, advanced, and advanced high). PLDs describe the characteristics of each proficiency level (beginning, intermediate, advanced, and advanced high). The ELPS contain a description of the proficiency levels. A student may be beginning in writing, but intermediate in speaking. Teachers will use the PLDs to determine the needs of each student as they plan lessons.

ELPS Objectives are required by the State
Steps for Using ELPS: Identify the ELL (LEP) students in each of your classes. Work with your campus LPAC coordinator to get the TELPAS rating information for your identified ELLs. Plan lessons accordingly based on the levels of your ELLS. Document ELPS objectives in your lesson plans. ELPS Objectives are required by the State
