9 What is T y p o g r a p h y ? Typography is the art and technique of arranging type, typed design and modified typed glyphs. Type glyphs are created and modified using a variety of illustration techniques. The arrangement of type involves the selection of typefaces, point size, line length, leading (line spacing), adjusting the spaces between groups of letters (tracking) and adjusting the space between pairs of letters.

13 Typographic Oxymorons For the first part of this unit, you will be working with various font styles which communicate different ideas or concepts along with using an oxymoron. This artwork must fit an 8.5 x11 inches or larger piece of paper. Choose an oxymoron from the list on the handout or create your own. Remember, an oxymoron is a contradictory figure of speech. Create a typographic composition that conveys the basic meaning of the phrase. Base your solution on the use of contrasting typestyles (ex. Heavy san serif font combined with a light serif font).

19 What is a T y p o g r a p h y Portrait? A portrait of a person that is only composed of various font types. The manipulation of font sizes, styles, spacing, and orientation.

24 Typography Used As Persuasive/Informative Art You are to use your typography project to create a persuasive and informative art piece. You are to create an invitation or announcement using your typography portrait or animal. Your artwork must provide dates & times of an event, the purpose for the event, RSVP info, etc. You will be using a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator programs to create a realistic artwork.
